As a musician and music producer, I have had some unique experiences throughout my career. One of my most exciting experiences was when I was approached by a top executive from Volkswagen to create motivational music for the company’s internal events. The executive was so determined to work with me that he even bypassed the company’s marketing agency.
The project involved creating a new music version of a popular German song and writing new lyrics for it. To prepare for the project, I spent hours listening to the original song and even slept with headphones playing the song on repeat to ensure it was in my subconscious. I then booked a recording studio because I didn’t have my own studio at that time and invited a singer to do the vocals. While I had new lyrics prepared, we modified them on the spot and tried different things until we found what worked best.
After a couple of days, the track was almost ready, but I felt like it needed something extra to make it stand out. I decided to add an intro featuring a person doing a little speech in German, like the speeches you hear from politicians or protesters. I knew I needed an actual German speaker to do the job, so I contacted the Volkswagen executive and asked if he would record it for me. He agreed, and we recorded his voice over the phone to capture a megaphone-style sound. I asked him to use part of the original German lyrics for the speech. The final result was amazing, and the executive was thrilled with the track.
A couple of months later, the executive asked me to manage and produce a huge music project that would involve executives and employees from Volkswagen’s supply department. The project involved creating multiple groups of around 30 to 40 people each to play instruments or sing. I had just three months to complete the project and deliver a final presentation at a corporate event.
The project was challenging since many of the employees had little to no musical experience. I had to find out who played instruments and then use those who could play as the musicians in the group while the rest of the group became singers. We rehearsed every day of the week, and it felt like I was working there as a regular employee. The project was exhausting but ultimately rewarding, and I was proud of what we accomplished.
In conclusion, my experience working with Volkswagen was one of the most unique and exciting moments in my career. It was an opportunity to showcase my talents and create something truly special. I will always be grateful for the experience and the people I met during the project.
