As a musician, I have learned that determination is everything. It is the driving force behind any successful career in the music industry. It is what separates those who make it from those who don’t. In this article, I will be sharing my personal thoughts and experiences on the power of determination and how it can help you achieve your goals.
Believe in Yourself
First and foremost, you need to believe in yourself. If you don’t believe in yourself, then who will? This may seem like a cliché, but it is true. You need to have confidence in your abilities and your dreams. Believe that you have what it takes to make it in the music industry, and you will.
Never Give Up on Your Dreams
Sometimes it may take a long time for a dream to come true, and sometimes the dream may not come true in the way we wanted. But whatever happens, never lose your determination and dreams because this is what takes us to the next level and keeps us alive. There’s no age limit to go after our dreams, so do your best to be the best you possibly can in your area, and that applies not just to us musicians, but to anybody else and professional careers. Never is too late to pursue your dreams, so never is too late to start.
Positive Thinking
I believe that we are what we think. If you think positive things, it will attract them, and if you are pessimistic and only have bad thoughts, it will not attract good things. The universe is watching us, and it knows each person better than anyone, including ourselves. Keep in mind that everything has a reason that goes beyond our capacity to understand things. Keep doing good things, practicing, learning, teaching (giving others), and one day it will give it back to you. Just make sure you never give up and be ready because when the time comes, you will be gifted (the universe will give you back) by your determination during all these times.
Approach Others
Don’t be afraid to approach others. It doesn’t matter who you want to talk or get introduced to; remember that we are all born the same. I mean, the only thing that may be different will be the bank account and power someone may have more than others, including you, but other than that, there’s no reason to be afraid. I personally don’t care who I am talking to or who I want to talk to. It could be a king or a president, it does not scare me because we are all the same for the universe. And I have this thing: We all have the “no” as an answer so what do we have to lose to try to get a “yes”?
Here’s one simple example I can think of now: If a reporter wants to break a story, the reporter will do whatever it takes to get in touch with the person (or people) involved. They will find a way to get their email, phone number, etc. They will try to persuade the person to give what they want in order to get some breaking news. Well, if you want to find an artist or another music dream job, don’t be afraid to contact them and do whatever it takes (with respect and knowing when is time to stop). If you’re not successful with the first option, move one and find another one. Just remember that there are limits and never do something wrong to obtain what you’re seeking. Be respectful, use common sense, and do not invade someone’s space (If you will).
Visualize Success
If you know what you want for your music career, try to visualize it and pretend it’s happening already. We get what we think, and we attract what we have been looking for. So, start visualizing success in your mind, and it will happen sooner or later.
Let me tell you a story that really stuck with me. I once had a conversation with a friend who was the A&R Manager at Sony Music at the time. We were both at the house of an artist that I was playing for, and I remember telling him that it was so complicated to break into a certain network of musicians. I don’t remember exactly what the subject was, but I remember his response vividly.
He said to me, “Luciano, forget about being acceptable to a certain group of people. Let’s build our own network, and others will want to join us in the near future.” That phrase really stuck with me, and I couldn’t help but laugh and say, “I guess you’re right.”
The bottom line is this: don’t worry about being accepted by a certain group or network. Instead, focus on doing your thing, and when the time comes, things will come naturally, and other musicians will approach you. It’s all about building your own network and letting others come to you.
In conclusion, determination is the key to success in the music industry. Believe in yourself, never give up on your dreams, and maintain a positive attitude. Approach others without fear, and visualize success in your mind. With determination, anything is possible. Keep pushing, keep striving, and never give up on your dreams.
